Ricky Layne Pinkerman
“In life, we love you dearly, in death we love you still. In our hearts, you hold a place, no one else will ever fill.”
Ricky Layne Pinkerman II of Salem, Va., went to be with the Lord on Thursday, January 19, 2023, at the age of 42.
Ricky was born on November 14, 1980, in Gallipolis, Ohio.
Ricky was preceded in death by his grandfather, Delano “Lane” Pinkerman; and his grandmother, Virginia Ann VanSickle.
He is survived by his wife, Phuong Tran Pinkerman; his three precious daughters, Kinsley, Kylie, and Ellie Pinkerman; his parents, Rick and Sandy Pinkerman; his brother, Josh (Jennifer) Pinkerman; his grandfather, Dale VanSickle; his grandmother, Claudette Pinkerman; his aunts, Tami (Jon) Thompson, Linda (Kenny) Barnes, and Kelly (Mike) Elliot; his nephews, Tyler Carr, Dillon Kao, and Luke Young; and his nieces, Kennedy and Delaney Pinkerman.
Ricky was one of a kind. He was the most amazing and Godly man. While most boys would play with their action figures, Ricky would line up his action figures and preached to them at a very young age. Ricky and his family knew he would become a minister. Ricky served several churches in the Roanoke Valley as a Student and Family Minister, with the most recent position at Enon Baptist Church. While at Enon, Ricky developed a more contemporary service called “The Bridge”, where he brought the message himself. Ricky was a wonderful preacher as he always moved from inspiration to application, incorporating how his ideas and points can be applied in relevant and concrete ways. His sermons touched many.
Ricky Pinkerman was the kindest, most compassionate, and genuine person you will ever meet. A selfless man with a colossal heart, he would help a random stranger or do anything for his family and friends. He had a sense of humor that was so infectious. Ricky was diligent, efficient, and committed in all aspects of his life and in all things he did. Ricky was a person of so many dimensions and talents. He was an avid sports fan, playing and watching just about every sport. His favorite sports were football, basketball, and golf.
Ricky was loved by many and will be greatly missed. There will always be a void in our heart, but Ricky’s spirit and memories will live with us forever.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 2 p.m. in the John M. Oakey & Son Chapel in Salem, Va., on Saturday, February 4, 2023. The family will receive friends an hour prior for visitation. A committal service at Sherwood Memorial Park, also in Salem, Va., will immediately follow the Celebration of Life Service.
