Rita P. Carroll

October 15, 1943 - November 17, 2025

Rita Peverall Carroll, 82, peacefully passed from this life into her eternal heavenly home, on Monday morning, November 17, 2025 at her home in Botetourt. Her body and mind have now been restored and made whole. Rita bravely and even cheerfully endured the dreadful disease of dementia. Her condition escalated in recent days yet she still maintained her sweet spirit. She is survived by her loving husband, caregiver, and lifelong best friend, Stephen R. “Steve” Carroll. They were married 64 years as of last December 23, 2024. Steve and Rita’s marriage was the epitome of what a lifelong partnership and commitment looked like. Their love and respect for each other was a precious picture of vows made and kept as they promised “to have and to hold from this day forward, for better for worse, for richer for poorer, in sickness and in health, to love and to cherish, till death us do part…”

Preceded in death was Rita’s daughter, Robbin Leigh Carroll. In addition to Steve, she is survived by her son, Stewart “Todd” Carroll; surviving 3 grandchildren: Joshua Carroll of Muncie, Indiana; Daniel Carroll (Hannah) of Vinton, Virginia; and Rachel Carroll of Savannah, Georgia; sister: Julia Peverall Linkenhoker.

Also, preceded in death are parents: Albert A. Peverall, Sr. and Dale Meadows Peverall; brother: Al Peverall, Jr. and wife Norma Peverall; sister: Patricia Peverall Childers.

Surviving also are many nieces and nephews and their extended family members as well as special friends, too numerous to count. Rita held a special place in their hearts and all would be willing to exclaim, “To know her was to love her!”

Services to honor and celebrate Rita’s life will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday, November 20, 2025 at Orchard Hills Church, with Pastor Scott McLucas officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service beginning at 10 a.m.

In lieu of flowers the family has requested that memorial donations be made to the Alzheimer’s Association at www.alz.org in Rita’s memory.
