Robert "Bob" Edward Blanchard

Robert E. Blanchard “Bob” went to be with the Lord on Thursday, November 9, 2023. Bob was born on Monday, June 9, 1958, in LaGrange, IL to the late Robert J. Blanchard and Patricia Ann Blanchard.

Bob was a beloved son, husband, stepfather, step-grandfather, and brother who would literally do anything for his family. He was a family man but also loved his country as witnessed by his service in the United States Navy.

In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his wife, Carolyn Marie Blanchard; stepdaughter, Karla Richardson Melton, and granddaughter Makalya Melton. Bob retired from Roanoke Gas Company after serving over 30 years as a dedicated and loyal Crew Leader in the Distribution Department. Team members referred to Bob as "Cool Daddy" because of his laid-back demeanor.

Those left to cherish his memory include his brothers Paul Blanchard (Isabella); Daniel Blanchard (Lori); and Mark Blanchard (Tracy); step-grandchildren, Morgan Melton, and Hunter Neuhs; as well as additional family and friends.

A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. on Monday, November 13, 2023, at the John M. Oakey & Son Funeral Home in Salem. Friends may visit with the family starting at 9:30 a.m. until the hour of the service. Interment will follow at Piedmont Cemetery in Shawsville, VA.
