Robert Lee Martin

Robert Lee Martin, Jr., 75, of Bassett, Virginia passed away Monday, April 14, 2025. He was born February 16, 1950, in Ashland, West Virginia to the late Robert Lee Martin, Sr. and Shirley Gilbert Martin.

In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by brothers, Dennis Ray Martin and Billy Eugene Martin.

Robert was a hardworking man who spent many years in maintenance, always willing to lend a hand and take pride in a job well done. He had a love for NASCAR, especially cheering on his favorite drivers, Chase Elliot and the legendary Dale Earnhardt, Sr. Robert found joy in the simple things; mowing the grass, working on cars, and taking walks with his beloved pet, “Nugget.” He was always eager to help around the house and was deeply devoted to his family. Nothing brought him greater happiness than spending time with his grandchildren, who were the light of his life. Above all, Robert cherished his wife, Carolyn. The two were married for fifty-seven years, and she was not only the love of his life but his greatest joy and most treasured companion.

He is survived by his loving wife, Carolyn Hazelwood Martin; daughter, Dawn Renee Helms (Stephen); sons, Bobby Dean Martin and Joseph Scott Martin (Michelle Woody); sisters, Susan Darlene Reynolds and Sharon Elaine Barrow (Jeff); brother, Michael Wayne Martin; grandchildren, Loren Beth Nelson (Jacob), Rachel Leigh Martin (Ahmad Alhindi), Dylan Michael Helms (Devin), Schuyler Matthew Helms (Chelsea Boyd), Douglas Bryan Butskey, and Morgan Paige Pond; and sixteen great grandchildren.

A Celebration of Life service will be held Friday, April 18, 2025, at 3:00 PM, at Wright Funeral Service Chapel.
