Robert Lee Meadows
Robert Lee Meadows Sr., formerly of Narrows, Virginia, a cherished father, grandfather, cousin, and friend, passed away peacefully on October 5, 2025, in Galax, Virginia under the care of Senior Share Home. Born on January 12, 1943, in Giles County, Virginia, Robert's life was a tapestry of service, family, and the simple joys that make a life well-lived.
Robert's early years in Giles County laid the foundation for a life of dedication and courage. After graduating from high school, he answered the call of duty and proudly served his country in the US Army during the Vietnam War. As a Sergeant E5, he demonstrated valor and commitment, earning recognition through numerous medals, including the Good Conduct Medal, Combat Infantry Badge, Army Commendation Medal, two Overseas Bars, the Purple Heart, National Defense Medal, Gold Star, and the Vietnam Campaign Medal. His service to his country was a testament to his strength and character.
Returning home from service, Robert transitioned to civilian life with the same sense of purpose and dedication that marked his military career. He became a well-respected retail butcher, a profession through which he continued to serve his community, providing both sustenance and a friendly face to those who came to know him.
Robert's life was not all work; he had a passion for the things that brought joy and excitement. In his early years, he raced cars, feeling the thrill of speed and competition. His love for automobiles didn't stop at the racetrack; he was also an aficionado of old cars, appreciating the craftsmanship and nostalgia they represented. Music was another source of happiness for Robert, particularly the timeless tunes of oldies music, which could often be heard filling the room whenever he was around. Shopping and eating out were among Robert's favorite pastimes, often shared with family and friends. These simple pleasures, along with his beloved furbaby, Daisy, brought light and laughter into his life. His grandchildren, who were a source of immense pride and joy, will carry forward the memories of these shared experiences with love and fondness.
Robert is survived by his loving sons, Michael William Meadows and Robert Lee Meadows Jr., who will remember their father for his strength, integrity, and the unwavering support he provided throughout their lives. His legacy also lives on in several grandchildren, who will miss their grandfather deeply. Robert's cousin and caregiver, Mitzi Robertson, as well as special friends, Johnny and Darlene Adkins stood by him with unwavering support, reflecting the bonds that were so important to him. He was preceded in death by his parents, Gilbert and Sarah Blankenship Meadows, who instilled in him the values of hard work and commitment to family that he carried throughout his life.
