Robert "Wayne" Cozart

October 21, 1932 - June 23, 2025

Robert “Wayne” Cozart, 92, entered his eternal rest Monday, June 23, 2025, in Martinsville, Virginia. He was born October 21, 1932, in Albuquerque, New Mexico, to the late Charles Albert Cozart and Rosalie Benton Cozart.

In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his daughter, Tanna Wilson; son, Charles Wayne Cozart; sister, Hilda Pearl; brothers, Charles Cozart, Darrell Cozart, and George Cozart.

He was of the Christian faith and attended Stanleytown’s Amazing Grace Baptist Church. Wayne, a proud veteran of the US Marine Corps, served his country during the Korean War. His strong work ethic and entrepreneurial qualities enabled him to later own and operate a mobile home service company. Wayne was a true outdoorsman. He was the consummate, conscientious hunter and fisherman who enjoyed being at his hunting cabin which he tended with great care. He often donated a portion of his catches to help feed people in need.

Wayne was a huge proponent of blood and plasma donation. For a lengthy period of time, he had donated more than anyone else in the Martinsville-Henry County area. His efforts certainly helped save an untold number of lives. Wayne was active in his community. He was a lifetime member of the Benevolent and Protective order of Elks, having joined the Martinsville Lodge in 1973. He was also a member of Amvets.

Above all, he cherished his family and loved to spoil his grandchildren. He is survived by a host of loved ones who will forever cherish his memory including: his loving wife of 48 years, Catherine Jean Cozart; daughter, Tami Cozart Sapp; sisters Dean LeFleur, Carole Dale, Linda Mills; grandchildren, David Brown, Victor Ray, Lillie Cate Sapp, Kendall Sapp, and their father Scott Sapp; great-grandchild, Sara Ray; several nieces, nephews, extended family, and friends. In addition to his family, he leaves behind numerous friends who were very special to him. His family is tremendously grateful for the support they provided during his life and in his passing.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to The American Heart Association or a veteran’s charity of your choice. He would ask those who are willing and able to consider donating blood in his honor.

A memorial service will be held Friday, July 11, 2025, at 4:00 PM at Stanleytown’s Amazing Grace Baptist Church with Pastor Greg Hodges officiating. Military Honors will be presented by the Martinsville & Henry County Veterans Honor Guard. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service.

Wright Funeral Service & Crematory is serving the family. Online condolences may be made at www.wrightfuneralservices.net.
