Obituary for Robey Wesley Burkhart

Robey Wesley Burkhart, born in Patrick Country, passed away on January 8, 2026 at 89 years old, leaving behind a legacy of love, devotion, and quiet strength. He was deeply loved and will be profoundly missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him.

Robey was born in Patrick County, Virginia, to Johnny and Alice Pell Burkhart, who instilled in him strong values of faith, hard work, and family—values that guided him throughout his life. He was preceded in death by the love of his life, Mary King Burkhart, with whom he shared a deep and enduring bond. Their marriage was marked by loyalty, commitment, and an unwavering love that remained strong through the years.

For many years, Robey worked in the hosiery industry in Mt. Airy, where he built not only a career but also several lifelong friendships that he treasured deeply. He was known as a dependable and hardworking man whose character earned the respect of those who worked beside him.

Robey found joy in the simple pleasures of life, spending his leisure time hunting, fishing, gardening, and watching sporting events. Above all, his greatest joy came from watching his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren participate in their sporting events, proudly cheering them on and supporting them every step of the way.

A devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, Robey’s heart was always with his family. He is survived by his children, Tim Burkhart (Pam), Ronnie Burkhart (Debbie), Annette Freeman (David), Anthony Burkhart, and Robin Upson (Stephen), along with grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and extended family members who will forever cherish his steady presence, quiet encouragement, and unconditional love.

Robey was a faithful member of the Fellowship Church of Ararat, Virginia, where he found fellowship, faith, and a strong sense of community.

In addition to his beloved wife, he was preceded in death by one sister and three brothers. A service to honor Robey’s life will be announced at a later date. Those who knew him are encouraged to honor his memory through acts of kindness, family togetherness, and love for one another.

“Then I heard the voice of the Lord saying, ‘Whom shall I send? And who will go for us?’ And I said, ‘Here am I. Send me.’” — Isaiah 6:8

Robey Wesley Burkhart will be remembered for the life he lived, the family he loved, and the quiet strength he carried every day.
