Robin Romer Dearing

Robin Romer Dearing, 93, of Salem, Virginia, passed away on Sunday, March 16, 2025. He was born in Roanoke, Va., on July 7, 1931, and was preceded in death by his father, Elbert Warner Dearing and mother, Aletha Johnson Dearing of Williamsburg, Virginia.

Robin is survived by his wife of 68 years, Jo Ann Lindamood Dearing, three children, daughter, Marsha Kay ReMine and husband, John,

of Roanoke, Virginia; sons, Bryan and wife, Mary Beth Hunt of Conyers, Georgia, and Christopher and wife, Dr. Mary Beth Miller of Severna Park, Maryland; grandchildren, Brett, Charles, Grayson, Dr. Emily, “Peach”, Ben, Jack and Ally; great grandchildren, Mason, Chloe, Carlee, Clark and Micah; brother, Versal Ray Dearing; sisters, Beverly Manning and Shirley Evans, both of Roanoke, Va., and Betty Weaver of Williamsburg, Virginia.

Robin grew up in Roanoke and attended Jefferson High School, Class of 1949. He graduated from Virginia Tech, Class of 1959, with a degree in Building Design. Prior to attending Virginia Tech, he served in the U.S. Air Force for four years during the Korean

Conflict, and after basic training at Lakeland AFB in Texas, he was schooled in Lithography at the Pentagon and in Boise, Idaho with overseas assignment in Tripoli, North Africa. Upon honorable discharge, he worked with Kinsey and Motley Architects, T.A. Carter Architect, during which he became a registered Architect in the State of Virginia, and SFCS Architects and Engineers before entering into private practice. He served on the BZA and BOCA Building Code boards in Salem, Virginia. Robin was an active member of Fairview United Methodist Church having served as chairman of the Administrative Board and Trustees as well as on various other church committees. He also greatly enjoyed teaching Sunday School and sang baritone in the church choir. Robin enjoyed bowling, party games and was an avid tennis player until his knees finally wore out. He retired as a domestic engineer. Robin and wife cherished their family trips together to the New England states, Hilton Head Island and St. John in the U.S. Virgin Islands and traveling with his wife in their later years to London, Bermuda, St. John, and to other locations throughout the United States.

Funeral services will be conducted on Friday, March 21, 2025, at 2:00 p.m., in the chapel of John M. Oakey & Son Funeral Home, Salem, with Pastor Tim Gearhart officiating. Interment immediately following in Sherwood Memorial Park, Salem. The family will welcome friends for a time of visitation prior to services, beginning at 12:45 p.m.
