Roger Allen Silcott
Surrounded by the love of those dearest to him, Roger Allen Silcott of Salem, Va, passed away, at the age of 46, on Wednesday, July 2, 2025, after a short battle with cancer. He was born on May 5, 1979, to the late Charles Melvin Sr. and the late Ruby Jean Jones Silcott, and grew up in Elliston, Va.
He was a cherished husband, father, brother, uncle, son-in-law, and friend who is also preceded in death by two siblings Ronnie Eugene Silcott and Wanda Jean Johnson. He is survived by his wife Dorothy Lee Silcott; two sons, Andy William, Henry Arild; two brothers, MJ Silcott (husband Bobby), Charles Silcott Jr. (wife Tracy). In addition to those listed, his legacy lives on in the many lives he shaped in quiet, beautiful ways.
Over 27 years of Roger's professional life was dedicated to Spartan Square Kroger, where he was a night stock manager. He was known for his reliability and kind demeanor. It was there in the late 1990s that he met his future wife while she worked the VHS rental counter. Later, when she returned to work there, they reunited and married on August 19, 2011. On January 31, 2013, they welcomed their first son into the world. Exactly three years later, to the day, their second son made his appearance.
Roger enjoyed playing cards, board games, and pickleball with his family. He often played Quiddler with his wife, Monopoly with Henry, and outdoor sports with his kids. During family gatherings, his extended family also cherished game time with him. He enjoyed walking the Greenway. His love of country music, both new and old, made him the family expert when playing Country Heardle.
Friends may visit with the family from 3-5 p.m. on Saturday, August 9, 2025, at John M. Oakey and Son Funeral Home, 305 Roanoke Blvd. Salem, VA 24153. All other services will be private.
