Roger Lee Travis

Roger Lee Travis, 77, of Martinsville, VA departed this world on June 3, 2023 while a patient of Sovah Health, Martinsville. He was born May 25, 1946 in Bluefield, WV to the late Eugene Marion Travis and the late Mary Alice Law Travis. He was married to Preciosa Cuarteno Travis, who survives, of the residence. Roger and Preciosa were married on September 27, 1979 at his parents’ home, Havenwood Manor Estate and later renewed their marriage vows on September 27, 1991 at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church. Roger proudly served in the U.S. Air Force and served in Vietnam. He later worked in the textile industry for Fieldcrest Mills as a Picker for many years. He was a member of American Legion Post 141 and St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, where he served as an usher. He earned his Business Degree and worked in various other professions prior to his death. He was predeceased by his brother Ronald Eugene Travis of Newalla, OK.

After his retirement, Roger wrote religious poems, fancied himself as an artist, created floral arrangements, built, and created things, and loved to paint statues and murals on walls and floors.

In addition to his wife, left to cherish his memory are his sister, Mary Lou Gilbert of Inverness, FL and several nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. on Monday, June 12, 2023 at Norris Funeral Services, Martinsville Chapel. Funeral will be held at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church on Tuesday, June 13, 2023 at 10:00 AM, officiated by Father Carlos Lerma. Interment will follow the funeral service at 2:00 PM at Roselawn Memorial Gardens, Princeton, WV.
