Ronnie Lee Newton
Ronnie Lee Newton, of Danville, VA, passed away on February 14, 2025 at the age of 80. Ronnie was born in Clover, VA on December 22, 1944, and grew up in Halifax County, VA. He was the son of William B. Newton and Ruby Edmondson Newton who predeceased him.
Ronnie proudly serviced in the United States Army Security Agency (ASA) during the Vietnam era. Entering the military in 1963, he served until 1967, being stationed in the Philippine Islands for part of that time.
Ronnie had a successful career with the Sherwin Williams Company spanning 33 years previous to his retirement. He served in many different capacities, including store manager, credit and accounting manager, sales rep. and operations manager.
He was a graduate of Halifax County High School and after moving to Danville in 1970, he received his associate degree in Banking and Financial Management from Danville Community College.
Ronnie greatly enjoyed shotgun sports, especially skeet shooting. He served for many years as Secretary of the Halifax County Gun Club and was also a member of the Rockingham County Gun Club and Brushy Mountain Gun Club.
Ronnie is survived by his loving wife Geraldine “Gerrie” Anderson Newton for 54 years. Also surviving, is one of the joys of his life, his son, Bradford “Brad” Newton of Danville, VA. And he cherished his daughter in law, Crystal Hankins Newton. He will be greatly missed by his granddaughter, Haley Newton, whom he absolutely adored and enjoyed life with her on every occasion that he could.
He was a member of Westover Baptist Church, and one of his fondest memories of his youth was attending Bethel Baptist Church in Scottsburg, VA.
A Funeral Service will be held on Tuesday, February 18, 2025 at 11:00am, at Norris Funeral Services, West End Chapel, Danville, VA, with Pastor Doug Barber officiating. A visitation will be held 1 hour prior to the service on the same day from 10-11:00am, also at Norris West End Chapel. A Private Interment for family only will be held at a later date at Bethel Baptist Church Cemetery in Scottsburg, VA.
