Rual "Gene" Evans

May 28, 1948 - February 14, 2026

Rual “Gene” Evans entered his heavenly home on February 14, 2026. Gene was born on May 28, 1948 in Texas to the late William Rual & Opal Evans.

Mr. Evans proudly served his country in the U.S. Navy. While stationed in Newport News, VA he traveled to Danville, VA with an army buddy and that’s where he met the love of his life, Barbara Dean Stone.

During his Navy years, he and Barbara married on May 6, 1972. They resided in Danville briefly before moving to Pasadena, Texas. Gene worked there as an electrician. Upon returning to Danville, VA in 1988, Gene had a long career at Sartomer and retired in 2012.

Gene attended and served in numerous ministries at Hope Church under his pastor and good friend, Brian Edwards. He was instrumental in starting and giving much of his time to the Boy Scouts troop at the church. He was presently serving on the security team for the children’s church ministries. He was also actively involved in a number of civic organizations, including the Carter Masonic Lodge #323, A.F. & A.M. and was a life member of the American Legion.

Gene had a passion for politics; local, state and national. He was a treasure trove of knowledge and was always reading, researching, and willing to answer questions and share.

Gene loved hunting, fishing and archery. He was an all around great helper, always willing to help his family and friends; never asking for anything in return. He was a devoted caretaker for Barbara.

In addition to his parents, Gene was predeceased by a daughter, Shelly.

He is survived by his loving wife, one son, J.R., one brother, Mike, one sister, Sandy, one niece and four nephews. He also leaves his dog and loyal companion, Midnight.

A Celebration of Life Service will be held at a later date.

Anyone wishing to make a contribution in Gene’s memory may do so to: Hope Church, 1118 Franklin Turnpike, Danville, VA 24540.
