Ruby Reynolds Harris

- April 1, 2025

On Tuesday, April 1, 2025, Ruby Eleanor Harris, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, passed away at the age of 93. She was at home, surrounded by love, with both of her hands held by her grandchildren, Jack and Tammy.

Born in 1932 in Lynchburg, Va., she built a 30-year career at GE before co-owning Harris Ceramic Shop with her signature creativity and enthusiasm.

She leaves behind her cherished husband of 62 years, Hubert "Nick" Harris, and their loyal companion, Bandit. She is also survived by her son Ralph Reynolds and wife Raye; daughter Darlene Mitchell and husband, Jackie Ray, Sr. Her children David and Becky preceded her in death.

Ruby was absolutely adored by her grandchildren and their families: Jackie Ray, Jr. "Jack" and wife Anita with their children Rita Lynn and Gavin Ray; Tammy Tufty and husband Xavier with their children Ava Ruby and Olivia Rose; Amy Perkins with her children Landon Edward and Hannah Grace; and Christopher Edward Reynolds.

A master quilter with extraordinary talent, Ruby's hands were rarely still. Her impeccable craftsmanship shone through every quilt, embroidery piece, and sewing project she created. The sewing world held no challenges she couldn't conquer with expertise—a passion she maintained with remarkable dedication right until the final weeks of her life.

Much like the bold, colorful fabrics she selected for her quilts, Ruby brought vibrancy and warmth to every gathering. Since joining the James River Camping Club in 1996, she reigned around countless campfires. Those who met Ruby were drawn to her kindness and spirit, finding themselves welcomed into her circle of friendship—a connection that often lasted a lifetime.

Ruby loved camping with her husband Nick and their many beloved dachshunds over the years. She was ready to hop in their motorhome and go at a moment's notice, with Myrtle Beach, SC being her favorite destination. She loved a full moon and the sound of the ocean waves.

Though her camping days have come to an end, we take comfort in knowing that Ruby's free spirit is now on the road again, traveling beyond the horizon to her next great adventure. She leaves behind a legacy of love, warmth, and beautiful quilts that will continue to wrap her family in comfort for generations to come.

The family will receive friends on Friday, April 4, 2025, from 6:00 pm – 8:00 pm at Whitten Timberlake Chapel. A Celebration of Life Service will be held on Saturday, April 5, 2025, at 12:00 noon at Whitten Timberlake Chapel with Pastor Tom Bryant officiating. Burial will follow the service at Virginia Memorial Park.
