Ruth Childress Franklin

Ruth Childress Franklin, 95, of Amherst passed away Thursday, April 10, 2025. She was the daughter of the late Thomas Henry Childress and Dora Moore Childress.

Born January 10, 1930, Ruth wasn’t just loving, she lived for her family. If you were one of her kids or grandkids, you knew without a doubt how much she adored you. She had this way of making you feel seen, safe, and so deeply loved. The family was everything to her, and she showed it in the little things; the warm hugs, the check-in calls, the way she lit up when her family got together. Losing her leaves a space nothing can ever fill, but her love stays with us.

In addition to her parents Ruth was preceded in passing by her husband Elmo Preston Franklin; her son-in-law Butch, and her siblings.

Those left to cherish Ruth’s memory include her children Sheryl Burgess Pugh, Cindy Martin and her husband Mike, Keith Franklin and his wife Dana; her 6 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren.

A graveside inurnment for Ruth will be held on Thursday, April 17, 2025 at 2pm, at Fort Hill Memorial Park, officiated by Pastor Derik Hamby.
