Ruth Jayne Daniel
Ruth Jayne Daniel, age 95, died peacefully at her home in Ridgeway, VA on September 27, 2025, surrounded by her family.
She was born on March 21, 1930 in Mount Airy, N.C. to William E. Freeman and Nina Owens Freeman. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, David Lynwood Daniel and her brother, William E. Freeman, Jr.
She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, as well as a devoted follower of her Lord and Saviour, Jesus Christ. Ruth Jayne was a Bassett High School graduate and attended Emmanuel College.
She was affectionately known as "Nana" to many and was a shining light in the lives of all who had the privilege of knowing her. She will also be remembered for her funny catchphrases. She was a member of Wilson Street Pentecostal Holiness Church and previously, Pocahontas Bassett Baptist Church.
She is survived by her daughters; Donna Daniel Plaster, Jane Elan Daniel Jacobs (Jake), April Daniel Martin (Sammy), and Laurie Daniel Motley (Jim), grandchildren; Meghan Ballard Brantingham, Mallory Dawn Martin, Sarah Catherine Motley, and James Augustine Motley III, and great-grandchildren; Emmerson Lyndsay Brantingham and Oliver Jay Brantingham.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held on Thursday, October 2, 2025, at 1:00PM at Collins Funeral Home, 30 Riverside Drive, Basset, VA, with Pastor Terry Knighten and Chaplain Troy Mays . A visitation will be held an hour prior from 12:00PM until 1:00PM. Burial will take place on Wednesday, October 8, 2025 at 2:00PM at Roselawn Burial Park.
