Ruth Paris Sims

Ruth Paris Sims, 91 of Lynchburg, passed away on Sunday, September 15, 2024.She was born in Colonial Heights, Virginia on November 21, 1932, daughter of the late Benjamin J. Paris, Sr. and the late Myrtle T. Paris.When Ruth's husband Carl passed away from leukemia at the age of 40 while she was expecting their 2nd child, she became a single mother who devoted her life to her family. She went above and beyond to provide every need and want for her daughters. She made sure her children received a college education. She stepped in when her sister passed away to fill the role of mother and grandmother to her nieces and great nieces.Ruth graduated from EC Glass High School and attended Phillips Business College. Ruth was the Circulation Librarian for Randolph-Macon Woman's College for over 50 years. Ruth attended Thomas Road Baptist Church and enjoyed her many trips with the Senior Life group. She was an avid reader who enjoyed mysteries, and she had a great sense of humor. Her home was the family gathering place for every holiday. She started many cherished family traditions to bring joy and love to every family event. She loved animals and adored her 2 cats, Dodie and Bean. Above all, Ruth loved her family and provided the example of how to be a strong, independent and compassionate woman. Ruth was preceded in death by her husband, Carl F. Sims and 5 siblings, Benjamin Josiah Paris, Jr, John Scott Paris, William Cecil Paris, Malcome Everett Paris, and Derlys Paris Almond. Left to cherish her memory are her two daughters, Carolyn Sims McCarron and husband Chris and Jennifer Carl Sims; three grandchildren, Andrew Carl McCarron, Cathleen Anne McCarron and Ethan Christopher McCarron; three beloved nieces, Sharon Kay Garner and husband Rob, Sherrill Creasey, and Deirdre A. Walker and husband William as well as three beloved great nieces, Rianne Creasey, Ivy Walker and husband Kyle Miskell and Colby Shoemaker and husband Michael.The family will receive friends from 11:00 – 12:00 on Friday, September 20, 2024, at Whitten Timberlake Chapel.A graveside service will be held at 2:00 pm on Friday, September 20, 2024, at Terrace View Baptist Church Cemetery with Pastor Rick Rasberry officiating.In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Lynchburg Humane Society, 1211 Old Graves Mill Rd, Lynchburg, VA 24502.
