Sammy James Dehart

Mr. Sammy James DeHart, 78, of Mount Airy passed away on November 5, 2025, at the Joan and Howard Woltz Hospice Home in Dobson. He was born July 9, 1947 to the late Bryan William and Ruth Midkiff DeHart. He attended Appalachian State University before serving in the US Navy during the Vietnam War. After returning to the states, he worked for McLean Trucking Co. and later, Yellow Freight Systems.

Left to cherish his memories are a son, James DeHart; a daughter, Sarah DeHart; two grandchildren Sparrow and Samuel Krantz; two brothers, Dr. Dan DeHart of Morganton and David DeHart of Boone. In addition to his parents, Sammy was preceded in death by his wife, Sarah Cathleen "Cathy" Holder DeHart.

Funeral services will be held at Holy Cross Missionary Baptist Church on Sunday, November 16, 2025 at 3:00 pm. The services will be conducted by Rev. DC Collins, Rev. Larry Stone and Rev. Butch Holder. Burial will follow in the church cemetery with full military honors provided by the VFW Memorial Honor Guard, Pilot Mountain Post 9436 and Mount Airy Post 2019. The family will receive friends on Sunday from 2-3:00 pm at the church. Following the graveside committal a celebration of life meal will be shared for all friends and family that are willing to stay. Moody Funeral Services in Mount Airy is serving the family.
