Sandy Hamlett
Sandy Hamlett Jr. passed away peacefully at the Veterans Hospital in Richmond, VA on
April 29, 2025, at the age of 68. Sandy, better known as “Kidd”, was born on August 21,
1956, to Mr. Sandy Hamlett Sr. and Mrs. Alice Josephine Johns-Hamlett, better known
as Joe. Kidd graduated from Appomattox County High School and joined the United
States Army where he served on active duty from 1975 to 1979. He was not done with
the Army, so he served in the Army Reserve from 1979 to 1984. Kidd was a master
electrician and plumber, HVAC specialist, and blueprint reader. He used those skills to
serve the community. Kidd helped people whenever they called, and there was nothing
he could not do.
He was proceeded in death by his mother and father the late Sandy Hamlett Sr. and
Alice Josephine Johns-Hamlett. He leaves to cherish two daughters, Robin (Jeff)
Pankey-Vaughter of Lynchburg, Jennifer Martz of Hampton, and one son Keon Hamlett
of Appomattox. Two brothers Terry (Charlene) Hamlett of Appomattox, and Larry
(Sherry) Hamlett of Lynchburg. Five grandchildren, Jalen Ferguson, Myleahia (James)
Tolley, Alyssa Martz, Aaliyah Martz, and Kael Hamlett. He had a devoted friend Debra
Smith of Appomattox, and host of aunts, uncles, nephews, relatives and friends.
A Celebration of Life Service for Mr. Hamlett will be held on Tuesday, May 6, 2025,
11 a.m. at the New Jerusalem Baptist Church, Appomattox, VA.
Public viewing will be held from from 12 noon until 5 p.m. on Monday, May 5, 2025
at Bruce & Stiff Funeral Home.
