Sara Watts Terry
Sara Watts Terry, 89, passed away on August 19, 2023, at her home in Collinsville surrounded by her 3 children. She was born on January 24, 1935, in Scottsburg, Va to the late Rosa Moorefield Watts and Charlie Irad Watts. In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband, Esmond Arnold Terry; daughter, Wanda Terry Guilliams; grandson, Jordan Ross Pruett; brother, Charlie James “Jimmy” Watts; and her sister, Christine Watts Dolby.
Sara worked diligently alongside her husband, Arnold, as he served in the ministry for 56 of the 68 years they were married. No greater joy did she find than being his wife and serving the Lord with him. Sara taught Sunday School, sang in the choir and loved leading a soul to the Lord. Her talents often found her directing and sewing costumes for church plays, leading VBS, and doing whatever she was called upon to do to help his ministry.
Sara graduated from Halifax County High School in 1952 where you could find her actively engaged in playing basketball and softball every season. If you knew Sara, you could speak to her unapologetic love of every sport. For years she drove the school bus for Henry County, attended and cheered on numerous athletes who have kept in touch with her over the years. Watching or attending any ball game could be defined as Sara’s “happy place!” Her children and grandchildren would describe her as a wonderful Christian example, a pillar of strength and stamina, caring, energetic and hardworking.
She is survived by her daughters, Jennifer Pruett Hollyfield (Bart), and Laurie Terry Prillaman, and her son, Scott Terry (Suzanne). Also surviving are her grandchildren, Adam Guilliams (Alex), Aprille Kelly (Aaron), Jared Pruett (Erica), Tiffanie Adkins (Andy), Mallaurie Hickman (Logan), Kemper Terry, and Britney T. Beverly (Gunner); great-grandchildren, Eli Guilliams, Annabelle Kelly, Riley Kelly, Millie Kelly, Walker Pruett, Barrett Pruett, Keri-Jean Pruett, Kaden Pruett, Haley Adkins, and Tatum Adkins.
