Scott Bligh Carr
Scott Bligh Carr, age 90, of Longshop, VA, passed away Thursday, January 2, 2025. He was born in Trigg County, KY on October 11, 1934, to the late John Benjamin Carr, Sr. and Kathryn Beauchamp Carr. Scott was predeceased by a brother, John Benjamin Carr, Jr. and sister-in-law, Sherrill, and sister, Innis Carr Leslie, and brother-in-law, Russ. He is survived by his loving wife of 68 years, Jane Winchester Carr, a daughter, Beth Carr Oliver, son-in-law Bill, and a son, Ronald Scott Carr, daughter-in-law, Anne Wells Carr, grandchildren Scott Oliver (Laurie), Michael Oliver (Katie), Nick Carr (Sarah), Natalie Carr, and Jay Carr and great-grandchildren Sam and Drew Oliver. Scott spent much of his childhood in the family home in Taylorsville, KY. A standout high school athlete in basketball and baseball, he went on to Western Kentucky State Teacher’s College to play basketball for Coach Diddle (and major in Biology.) Following graduation, he enlisted in the USAF where he served as a Communications Specialist stationed at Sembach Air Base Germany. On return to the states, he taught biology in Boone County, KY for one year before enrolling in graduate school at the University of Kentucky where he earned his MS and PhD in Dairy Science. Scott has been a resident of the Blacksburg area since 1967. He served as an Extension Specialist at Virginia Tech, retiring in 1995. During retirement, Scott continued to enjoy traveling, entertaining grandchildren, socializing with church, golf, bridge and poker groups, and serving his community. Reading was his passion to the end. He was a lifelong University of Kentucky basketball fan and rarely missed a BHS or VA Tech football or basketball game. Between trips and games, he gardened and kept his songbirds well fed. Memorial Services will be conducted at Blacksburg Christian Church on January 7, 2025, with a visitation beginning at noon and service to start at 1 PM. Pastors J.B.
