Shelby Jean Collins

Shelby Jean Collins, 75 of Big Stoney Creek, VA departed this life on June 30, 2023. Born in Christiansburg, Virginia on February 14, 1948 she was a daughter of Cecille Pettry and the late Seibert Vest.

Shelby’s first love was her family. Her love was even more evident when she was surrounded by her grandchildren. She had a long career at Volvo Trucks in Dublin where she was a proud member of UAW local 2069. She was the first woman elected committee person and she won re-election continually until her retirement.

In addition to her father, Shelby is preceded by her step-father James Pettry; brother-in-law, Bobby Martin; sisters-in-law, JoAnn Darnell, Charlene McCroskey, and Irma Eppling.

Left to cherish her memory are devoted husband, Billy Collins, her mother, Cecille Pettry; son, Jason Bales (Michelle) of Christiansburg, VA; daughters, Lisa Assad (Tim) of Ironto, and Lori Mullins (Keith) of Radford, VA; grandchildren, Zachary, Austin, Sarah, Drew, Mandolyn, Terra, and Alayna; great-grandchildren, Hunter, and Rose; sisters, Sandra Vest of Georgia, and Sharon Steuck (Dan) of California; sisters-in-law, Rose (Larry) Darnell of Waiteville, West Virginia; Jean (Larry) Ratcliff of Pembroke, Virginia; brothers-in-law, Pete Collins of Pembroke; and James McCroskey of Big Stoney Creek; and many other family members and friends.

There will be a funeral service conducted on Friday, July 7, 2023 at 12:00 PM in the Kendall Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Shahn Wilburn officiating. Funeral services will conclude in Birchlawn Burial Park in Pearisburg, VA where she will be laid to rest. The family will receive friends on Friday, July 7, 2023 from 11:00 AM until 12:00 PM in the Kendall Funeral Home Chapel.
