Sherman Lee Townley

MARION, VA
Sherman Lee Townley, loving husband, and father was called to his heavenly Home on Thursday, December 8, 2022.
Sherman was born on August 21, 1939, in Bland, VA to the late Frank and Edna Townley. He is also preceded in death by his five brothers and five sisters. Sherman was a veteran of the U.S. Army and retired with 35 years of service with the Department of Corrections in Marion. He had an enthusiasm for baseball and played for the Pittsburg Pirates while in the Army. Sherman enjoyed spending time with his family and will be remembered for his quick wit, infectious smile, and his kind heart.
He is survived by his wife Wanda Jo Townley; two sons Mike “Minner” Townley and Bryan “Pooch” Townley; daughter Kim Townley; two granddaughters Anna and Amber; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held at 5:00PM, Sunday, December 11, 2022, at the Bradley’s Funeral Home Chapel in Marion with Pastor Don Mutter officiating. The family will receive friends from 3:00-5:00PM on Sunday at the funeral home. Graveside services will be held at 3:00PM, Monday at the SWVA Veterans Cemetery in Dublin, VA with full military honors rendered by the VA National Guard Honors Team and the American Legion Post 58. Family and friends are asked to meet at the cemetery. Flowers will be appreciated, or donations may be made to the Francis Marion V.F.W. Post 4667 or to St. Jude Children's Hospital.
