Shirley Ann McGuire
Shirley Ann McGuire, 75 of Salem and originally of Shawnee, Okla., passed away on Wednesday, January 15, 2025, at her residence.
Shirley was born on September 22, 1949, daughter of the late G.E. “Mac” and Ruth Mae McElroy. Prior to moving to Salem, Va., to facilitate the need to be closer to her daughter and grandchildren, she was employed with Central Plastics. Following her move, Shirley became employed with ITT Nightvision, where she would eventually retire. She spent her free time enjoying the craft of sewing and baking, which out of the two, baking was certainly favored by her grandchildren. Her fudge was a definite family favorite. She also enjoyed quilt-making for her family, but above it all, spending time with family was of most importance, along-side of her k-9 companion, “Toby.”
In addition to her parents, Shirley was preceded in death by her husband, Dennis Lynn McGuire; daughter, Denise Bethel; granddaughter, Allison Robertson; siblings, Patsy Mitchell, G.E. McElroy Jr., Judy Kessinger; and special nephews, Randall “Rudy” McElroy Jr & Austin Sanders.
Family remaining to cherish her memory include her son, Ernest Thompson (Krystal), and daughter, Jennifer Ruble (Bruce); siblings, Kay McElroy and Randall McElroy; grandchildren, Amanda Robertson, Danielle Nowak (Blaine), Kaylee Dobbins (Gavin), Ashley Johnson (Chance), Zachary Ruble (Blayre), Tyler Thompson, and Alexandria Ruble (Camron); great-grandchildren, Sabry Hunter, Kingston Nowak, Shia Hunter, Reese Nowak, Damon Dobbins, Micah Johnson, Emery Dobbins, Sutton Ruble, Nicolas Hunter Fisher, and Sawyer Ruble; great-great-grandchildren, Amaiya Hunter, Ariella Hunter, and Liam Hunter; and special nephew, Jason McElroy (Makenzie). Numerous other nieces and nephews also survive.
In keeping the wishes of Shirley and family, all services will be private at a later date.
