Shirley Burgess

Mrs. Shirley Mae Cole Burgess, 90, of Martinsville, V transitioned on Friday, DEcember 26, 2025 at her home.  She was born October 15, 1935, in Rockingham County, NC, a daughter of the late Buck and Dollie Broadnax Cole.  In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, Noble Burgess.

She was employed as a housewife and was a member of Antioch Missionary Baptist Church where she served on the Missionary ministry.

Those left to cherish her memory include four daughters: Gwendolyn Galloway, of Martinsville, VA; Marietta (William) Kellam, of Ridgeway, VA; Lavinia (Jasper) Broadnax, of Reidsville, VA; and Gloria Hairston, of Martinsville, VA; 8 grandchildren, 13 great grandchildren and a host of other relatives and friends.

Funeral services will be held Tuesday, December 30, 2025 at 12:00 PM at Antioch Missionary Baptist Church with Rev. Kenneth Hairston, officiating.  Burial will follow in the Burgess family cemetery in Ridgeway, VA. The family will receive friends at the church one half hour prior to the funeral an will be at the home at 810 Spruce street Martinsville, VA at other times. A public viewing will be held Monday, December 29, 2025 at Hines Funeral Services from 1:00 to 5:00 PM..
