Shirley St. Clair Goad
Shirley Marie (St. Clair) Goad made her final transition the morning of August 5, 2024 at the age of 73.Shirley was born in Pearisburg, Virginia on October 18, 1950 and died in the same community she lovedso much.
Shirley was a devoted wife to Larry J. Goad (Jack) for 55 years. She was forever telling anyone whowould listen, “I don’t know what I’d do without him.” His love and dedication to her was so strong, thathis support gave her the most comfort through her illness. She looked for him from the moment hereyes opened until the night they closed one final time.
Shirley was a loving and thoughtful soul. She did not know a stranger and would spend time talking toanyone. She loved talking on the phone with her family and friends and she began her day only aftercalling her beloved Aunt Helen every morning. Shirley loved playing bingo, cards, puzzle books, tryingnew foods, and spending time with family. She had a fun-loving and tenacious spirit that she carried into every relationship. Shirley was a hard worker and gave as much commitment to her work as she did herfamily. She started working as a teenager and felt that no job was beneath her. Shirley worked as awaitress for several years, then took a position as a seamstress for almost ten years. She eventuallywent to work at Poly Scientific, later acquired by Moog, Inc., remaining there until her retirement.Shirley was a member of the Ingram Village United Methodist Church.Shirley was a committed mother and doting grandmother. Her grandchildren were the pride of her life.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Richard and Thelma (Pyles) St. Clair; her brothers, ThomasPyles and Larry St. Clair; and her dear sister, Wanda Williams.
She is survived by her devoted husband, Larry (Jack) Goad, her loving children, Sherry Gallo (Charles)and Larry Goad, Jr (Tonya); her precious grandchildren, Mya Marie Gallo, Austin Goad, Cologero Gallo,Isabella Goad, and Zoey Goad; her sweet step-grandchildren, Vincent Gallo, Adriana Dalton, and JacobPauley. She is also survived by three wonderful siblings, sisters Brenda Lowery (Gary) and Mary SueMcManama and brother, Donald St. Clair (Lisa); and her dear aunt, Helen Pyles.
Shirley’s commitment to family also meant leaving behind great-grandchildren, numerous nieces,nephews, and cousins. Her role as a wife, mother, daughter, sister, aunt, cousin, and friend meanteverything to her. She instilled a love of family and dedication into her children and grandchildren andher spirit will live on through them.
The family will receive friends in a time of visitation on Friday, August 9, 2024 from 5:00 PM until 7:00PM at Kendall Funeral Home. A funeral service will be conducted on Saturday, August 10, 2024 at 1:00PM in the Kendall Funeral Home Chapel with Mitzi Sadler-Thorne officiating.
