Shirley Waller Amos

August 2, 1942 - August 28, 2024

Shirley Waller Amos, 82, of Bassett, Virginia, peacefully entered into the presence of the Lord on Wednesday August 28, 2024, at her residence. Born on August 2, 1942, in Galax, Virginia, she was the beloved daughter of the late Ira Patterson Waller and Audna Fayne Waller. Shirley was also preceded in death by her husband, Douglas Amos; three brothers, Douglas Waller, Fred Waller, and Billy Waller; and one sister, Brenda Wood.

For 28 years, Shirley was the proud owner of Shirley Florist in Bassett, Virginia, and later went on to manage Riverview Florist in Bassett for 5 years, her creativity and passion for flowers brought joy to countless lives, and her arrangements were a testament to her artistic spirit and dedication. She was also the co-founder of the Bassett Heritage Festival Parade and the Bassett Christmas Parade along with Paul.

Shirley leaves behind two devoted daughters, Julia Amos Romero and her husband Chris, and Jeanie Amos Long and her husband Chad. She was a loving grandmother to three grandchildren, Jacinda Steege and her husband Dan, Stephanie Romero, and Trey Long and his wife Emily, and a doting great-grandmother to Gabriel Steege. Shirley is also survived by three brothers, Rev. Ira Dean Waller, Jr. and his wife Esther, Jimmy Waller and his wife Earlene, and Pastor Charles Waller and his wife Tammy, as well as one sister, Jeanell Dunford. She will be deeply missed by her special friends of 25 years, Paul T. Kennedy, Jr. and Daryl B. Martin.

The family will receive friends on Friday, August 30, 2024, from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM at the Bassett Funeral Service Chapel. A funeral service will be held on Saturday, August 31, 2024, at 11:00 AM at the Bassett Funeral Service Chapel, officiated by Chaplain Rick, Rev. Ira Dean Waller, Jr., Pastor Charles Waller, Paul T. Kennedy Jr., and Daryl B. Martin. A burial will follow at Oakland Church Cemetery in Galax, Virginia.

Shirley's warmth, kindness, and devotion to her family and friends will be cherished forever in the hearts of all who knew her.
