Shirley Wright Hinshaw

Shirley Wright Hinshaw, age 90 of Henry, VA passed away peacefully at home on Wednesday, December 10, 2025. She was born May 7, 1935 in Guilford County to Joseph and Thelma Wright. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brother, Philip Wright of Burlington, NC.Shirley graduated from Guilford High School where she met her future husband, Vernon Hinshaw. They were married in 1955 and celebrated their 70th anniversary in May of this year. Shirley handled all of the finances for Hinshaw Construction as well as Shirley’s Orchard. They lived in the Guilford College community for 33 years before moving to Philpott Lake where they grew apples and peaches and joined and helped run the Patrick County Fruit Co-op.When she had time, she enjoyed painting ceramics and painted 15-piece Nativity sets for all of her children and her brother.In addition to her husband, Shirley is survived by her sister-in-law, Eleanor Wright; her children, Gwen Knight (Eddie), Gayle Wilson (Tommy), Carol Christopher (Jimmy) and Jimmy Hinshaw (Kimberley); 11 grandchildren; and 11 great grandchildren.A Celebration of her life will be held at "The Boat Shed" (260 Shirley Lane, Henry, VA 24102) at 1 p.m. on Saturday, December 13, 2025.Arrangements by Flora Funeral Service and Cremation Center, Rocky Mount.
