Sibilla Hammen Allen

Sibilla Allen, 78, of Martinsville, Virginia passed away Saturday, May 27, 2023. She was born on January 1, 1945 in Jachenau, West Germany, to the late Wilhelm Hammen and Bertha Maurice Hammen. At the end of WWII, her family moved to Pittsfield, New Hampshire, where she grew up.Sib was a born again Christian and attended Grace Baptist Church. Before moving to Virginia a couple of years ago, she was a kindergarten teaching aid at Epsom Central School in New Hampshire for more than twenty-five years. Sib touched many students' lives, was chased around for hugs from students constantly, and was a well-loved teacher in the community. She enjoyed working on her eBay business, doing puzzles, attending church and traveling throughout the United States and abroad. Mornings with her husband, Ross, were often spent drinking coffee and watching birds at their bird feeder and playing Scrabble together. Sib was a loving wife, mother, and grandmother.She is survived by her husband Ross E. Allen, her son Ross L. Allen (wife Rebekah); her daughter Crystal Watson (husband David); her daughter Tiffany Allen (husband Moses Khumalo); her sister-in-law Ruth Hammen (husband Peter predeceased); her nephew Peter G. Hammen (wife Kathy); and her nephew Chris Hammen (wife Jennifer); and nine grandchildren: Brock, Samantha, Joshua, Andrew, Maebel, Micah, Daniel, Jacob, and Melody. She was predeceased by her father Wilhelm Hammen, her mother Bertha Hammen, and her brother Peter Hammen.A memorial service will be held Wednesday, May 31st, 2023 at 4:00pm at Grace Baptist Church at 6400 Greensboro Rd, Ridgeway, VA 24148 with Pastor Kenny McFarling officiating.
