Stephen Forest Steele
Stephen Horace Steele went on his journey on July 10, 2024. He was at his home with his wife and grandchildren when God called for him. He was 62 years old. He was born in Coventry England, the son of Sandra and Arley Steele. They returned to the US in 1974 and he graduated from James River High School. After high school he joined the US Air Force and while serving in South Dakota he met and married Joann Jumping Elk a member of the Cheyenne River Sioux Nation.
After leaving the Air Force, Stephen began a career in Virginia as a brick mason and contractor. In his spare time he was very active in Native American events and helped collect toys for children on several reservations, and as a reward for his deeds, he was an honorary member of the Cheyenne River Sioux Tribe.
He was preceded in death by his father, and mother, and he is survived by his wife of 42 years JoAnn Steele, his daughter Carmelita Doughton, his son Joel Marshall, his sister Tania Gibson, his brothers Danny and Terry Steele, his nephews Jake Adkins, Trey Rhodes, and Josh Crawford, his nieces Felicia and Libby Steele, three grandchildren and one grandnephew.
Abiding by his wishes, his body was cremated and at a later date there will be a memorial service. His resting place will be at the foot of the Native American arbor he had built and where he hosted Native Americans for many year
