Stephen "Steve" Lee Cook
Stephen “Steve” Lee Cook, Sr. passed away Friday, November 28, 2025 at SOVAH Health in Danville, Virginia. Mr. Cook was born November 17, 1944 in Danville, Virginia to the late Vesper Lee Cook, Jr. and the late Theo Ann Smith Cook.
Mr. Cook proudly served our country in the US Air Force and retired from Goodyear Tire and Rubber Company. He loved auto racing, was an avid NASCAR fan, and had even raced on tracks in the area, and was crew chief for Chuck Lawson’s team. He was especially interested in his grandson, Jack, teaching him welding and all types of skills Steve had learned throughout his life.
He is survived by his grandson, Jack Lee Cook, his daughter-in-law, Christy Cook, both of Danville, Virginia; and his special and devoted friend, Chuck Lawson.
In addition to his parents, he was also predeceased by his beloved son, Stephen Lee Cook, Jr.; and his wife, Rita Gregory Cook-Raynor.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held Saturday, December 6, 2025, 11:00 a.m. at Norris Funeral Service, Mt. Hermon Chapel, with Pastor Bob Thurman officiating.
