Steven Lenord Ruff

Steven L. Ruff went to his heavenly home on Monday, October 16, 2023. He was born on October 5, 1948 in Sidney, NY and is the son of Mabel & Lenord Ruff. He is survived by his beloved wife Joan; daughter, Traci and her husband Tom; and their two children of Moseley, VA; and his son; Shane and his husband Walt of North Berwick, ME. He also has three brothers, Tom, Dave and Wayne; and sister, Karen.

Steve graduated from Sidney High School in New York and was class of 1967. Following graduation, he enlisted in the US Air Force and was part of the First Mobile Communications Group in Vietnam where he was stationed during the war. He married his high school sweet heart in December of 1969 while he was stationed at Mather Air Force Base in Rancho Cordova, CA. He was then honorably discharged from service in the Air Force in 1971.

He was a member of Franklin Heights Church, where he frequently volunteered and attended men’s bible studies. He loved the Lord and always wondered what heaven would be like. Now he knows first-hand what was waiting for him. He is walking hand and hand with Jesus.

Steve was an avid wood worker and enjoyed spending hours in his wood shop making his whirligigs. He could tackle any construction project with ease and left his mark on every home he and his wife lived in. He was an avid outdoorsman and enjoyed hunting, fishing and boating on the lake. He enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren, sharing wisdom and many laughs together.

Funeral services will be conducted at Franklin Heights Church in Rocky Mount, Virginia on Tuesday, October 24, 2023 at 1 p.m., with Pastor Stan Parris officiating. Interment will follow in Mountain View Memorial Park in Boones Mill, VA.
