Steven Ray St. Jacques
Steven Ray St. Jacques of Roanoke, Virginia entered the gates of Heaven on Thursday, June 19th, 2025 at 6:37 in the morning with a vigil of close friends and family at his bedside. Steve was predeceased by his father, Raymond William St. Jacques, mother Marion Rose Collins St. Jacques Livsey, step brother, William “Billy” St. Jacques and his granddaughter, Miryam Rose Guzman.
Steve was born three weeks after his due date on an Air Force Base in Topeka, Kansas. He quipped that he was not so much “born” as “evicted.” At six weeks of age, he boarded a flight with his mother and father to England beginning his life long love of travel. Steve grew up on air bases in England, Germany and, ultimately, the American Southwest. He returned to England in 1970 as a teen and began a career in sales of steel tubing.
Steve relocated to Roanoke, Virginia June 30th, 1982. He was the President of Cherry Personnel, a Principle at Liberty Cab Company and owner of Freedom Car Services. He spent several years as a board member of Showtimer’s Community Theatre and a lot of spare time chasing the NASCAR Circuit. Steve loved to tinker on computers and cars and threatened annually to construct “the World’s Greatest Christmas Tree Stand.” He was a student of genealogy and a fan of the Tottenham Hotspurs Football Club (COYS!)
Outside of his career(s), hobbies and pastimes, Steve’s greatest love was his family. On both sides of the ocean. He would laughingly recall that, when any photographer took group pictures at family events, they would pick up their tripod and walk backward to accommodate the shot. What most people don’t know is that Steve could look at those decades old, massive group photos and name every single face therein. Yes, Steve cared deeply for his family.
Left to cherish his memory are his devoted Daughter, Rosemary Ann St. Jacques (Daniel Guzmán) of Roanoke. His long time significant other, Michelle Kenley Mowles of Goodview. Brother in Law, Cleatis R. Sisson, III (Diana) of Salem, His Sister, Debra St. Jacques, Niece, Sharliena St. Jacques (Mark), Grand Nieces, Zhane Lynch Hood and Alexia Rose St.Jacques, Auntie Irene May (Clifford), Auntie Sylvia Collins, Auntie Janice Collins, all of London, England. His step siblings, Roberta Reece of Peterstown, WV, Robert St. Jacques, Jr., Peggy Rutrough (Glen) of Wertz, VA and many, many, many cousins and friends, too numerous to mention.
We say “goodbye” to Steve 43 years to the day that he returned to his home, America.
All the visits, all the calls, all the love, all the support while Steve was meeting his challenges are humbly appreciated. There was nothing more important to him than seeing you. He is in Glory with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. Whole once more.
A memorial service for Steven will be held June 30th, 2025 at Blue Ridge Funeral Home, 5731 Airport RD. NW Roanoke, VA 24012 with Pastor Tim Wright officiating.
