Susan Lee Hardy Pace

March 6, 1948 - October 19, 2025

Susan Lee Hardy Pace, affectionately known as “Ma Sue”, 77, passed away peacefully on October 19, 2025. Sue was born in Pittsylvania County, VA on March 6, 1948 to the late Estelle Davis Hardy and the late Norman Linwood Hardy. She was predeceased by her loving husband of many years, Mr. Robert Parrish Pace Sr.

Sue was of the Baptist faith and a faithful member of Mt. Hermon Baptist Church where she taught Sunday School and was a member of the Good News/ Jackie Hardy Sunday School class. She worked for many years in bookkeeping at Virginia Bank and Trust previous to her retirement. She also very much enjoyed going to cosmetology school and fixing hair. She was a member of the Danville Regional Medical Center Auxillary and the one day surgery department. She was an avid bowler and was inducted into the Danville Bowling Association Hall of Fame.

Sue is survived by two daughters; Julie Merricks (Andy) of Danville, VA and Tamara Puckett (Wayne) of Danville, VA; two sons; Lee Scarce and wife Elizabeth of Danville, VA and Robert Parrish Pace Jr. (Kathy) of Greensboro, NC; a brother; Vic Hardy and wife Nell of Danville, VA; 10 grandchildren; Tyler Merricks, Tanner Merricks, Casey Scarce, Tristan Scarce, Abby Scarce, Cole Scarce, Danielle Mullis (Todd), Alexis Giles (Alex), Jordan Burnett (Josh), and Bailee Puckett (Josh); six great grandchildren; Hadley, Layton, Callie, Jordan, Caroline, and Colton; a brother; two nephews; Jake Hardy (Jennifer) and Kevin Hardy (Casey); great nephew; Clay Hardy; and sister in law; Margaret Hardy Stovall (Doug).

In addition to her parents and loving husband, Sue was predeceased by a brother; Jackie Hardy; and nephew; Keith Hardy.

The family would like to also extend a special thank you to Sue’s loving neighbors, Larry Mills, Linda Holley and the Woodsons.

The family suggest that in lieu of flowers, memorial donations be made to Mt. Hermon Baptist Church Good News/ Jackie Hardy Sunday School class at 4385 Franklin Turnpike, Danville, VA 24540.

A Funeral Service will be conducted on Friday, October 24, 2025 at 1:00pm at Mt. Hermon Baptist Church, 4385 Franklin Turnpike, Danville, VA 24540, with Reverend Ryan Riley officiating. Interment will follow at Danville Memorial Gardens, Danville, VA. A visitation will be held on Thursday, October 23, 2025 from 6-8:00pm also at Mt. Hermon Baptist Church, Danville, VA.. At other times the family will receive friends at the residence of her daughter, Julie Merricks.
