Susie Payne

Susie Gravely Payne, of Martinsville transitioned on Thursday, August 1, 2024 at Martinsville Health & Rehab Center.  She was born in Martinsville, VA a daughter of the late Charles and Linda Brown Gravely.  In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, James Payne, two sons, Joshua Payne and Kelvin Gravely and one brother, Rev. Charlie M. Gravely.

She was a former private duty nurse and was of the Baptist faith.

Those left to cherish her memory include one daughter, Brenda Kellam, of Chesterfield, VA; and one son, James Gravely, of Winston-Salem, NC; three sisters, Norma Jean Gravely and Lillie (Andrew) Wilson, both of Martinsville, VA and Loretta (Steven) Niblett, of Bassett, VA; two brothers, Joe M. Gravely and Stephen (Loretta) Gravely both of Martinsville, VA; 9 grandchildren and 9 great grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held Friday, August 9, 2024 at 1:00 PM at Hines Funeral Services Chapel with Rev. Dr. Waddell G. Jones, officiating.  Burial will follow in Carver Memorial Gardens.  The family will receive friends at the funeral home one half hour prior to the funeral and will be at the home of a sister, (Norma) from Tuesday thru Thursday from 3:00 to 7:00 PM at other times.

A floating visitation will be held Thursday, August 8, 2024 from 2:00 to 7:00 PM at Hines Funeral Services.
