Sylvia Sue Minter Haynes

Sylvia Sue Minter Haynes, 74, of Ridgeway, Virginia, passed away on Thursday, September 28, 2023, at the Atrium Health Wake Forest Baptist Hospital, in Winston-Salem, NC. She was born on May 6, 1949, in Henry, County, to the late James Otis Minter Sr. and the late Emma Sue Hensley Minter. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her sister-in-law, Cynthia Minter.

Sylvia was a lifelong member of Horsepasture Christian Church. She was a dedicated member of the church, and she enjoyed working in the nursery for many years. She also enjoyed gardening with her husband, George. She was a homemaker and took pride in taking care of her family, she could be found gardening, canning, sewing, cross-stitching, and was a great cook. She enjoyed spending time with her family, especially her granddaughter Cassie and great granddaughter Ella.

Sylvia is survived by her husband of 54 years, George Booker Haynes; two daughters, Michelle Haynes Moore (Wayne) of Spencer, Virginia, and Amy Haynes of Ridgeway, Virginia; one granddaughter, Cassie Moore; and a great granddaughter, Ella Moore; four brothers, Jimmy Minter (Pauline), Roger Minter, Maxie Minter (Doris), and Eddie Minter; and a host of nieces, nephews, and other family and friends.

A visitation will be held on Monday, October 2, 2023, from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at Horsepasture Christian Church. The funeral service will be held Tuesday, October 3, 2023, at 1:00 p.m. at Horsepasture Christian Church, with Minister Kyle Thompson officiating. A burial will follow immediately after the service at the Horsepasture Christian Church cemetery.
