Sylvia Sutphin Buckner

Sylvia Sutphin Buckner passed away peacefully Monday, March 10th, 2025. She was born October 29th, 1942, in Danville, Virginia to the late Edith and Columbus Sutphin. Sylvia graduated from George Washington High School in 1961 and received her associate’s degree from Stratford College in 1963. She was a homemaker most of her life taking pride in cooking delicious meals for her family. During the later part of her life, she lived in North Myrtle Beach, SC where she enjoyed shag dancing and spending time with her friends.

She was predeceased by her husband, Donald “Donnie” W. Buckner, and her mother and her father. She is survived by her daughter Tanya Jones (Robert) of Danville and son, Chad Buckner (Heidi) of Winchester, Virginia. She is also survived by four grandchildren of whom she was very proud, Taylor Anne Jones, Landon Jones, Ethan Buckner, and Griffin Buckner. She is also survived by her sisters Phyllis Marshall (Barry), Joyce Dellis (Jim), and several nieces and nephews. A visitation will be held Friday, March 14, 2025, at 12:30 p.m. with a graveside service to follow at 2:00 p.m.
