Miss Thelma Lillian “Bouie” Dowell, 98, of Mt. Airy, passed away on Friday, August 25, 2023, at her home.  She was born on October 19, 1924, in Surry County to the late Ambrose Lafayette and Nannie Lessie Deatherage Dowell.  She was a loving homemaker and a member of First Baptist Church.  She is survived by sisters and brother-in-law, Opal Marion, Nancy and Albert Adams, Carolyne Churchill; A brother, Jimmy Dowell; a sister-in-law, Mary Dowell; many nieces and nephews.  In addition to her parents, Miss Dowell was preceded in death by sisters, Edith Joyce, Betty Neece, Patricia Terrell; brothers, Byron, Leo, Charles, Harry, Roscoe, Jack, and A.L. Dowell, Jr. a sister-in-law Carole Dowell.  A memorial service will be held Saturday, September 9, 2023, at 12:00 noon at First Baptist Church in Mt. Airy with the Rev. Jay Meadows officiating.  The family will receive friends Saturday, September 9, 2023, from 11:00 AM until time for the service at the church.  Moody Funeral Services in Mt. Airy is serving the Dowell family.  Flowers will be accepted, or memorial contributions may be made to First Baptist Church, 714 N Main St., Mt.
