Thelma Lois Sigmon Wright
It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Thelma Lois Wright, daughter of the late Emmett Lewis Sigmon and Gracie Mae Shively Sigmon. She was called home on June 1, 2025 at the age of 85. She passed peacefully surrounded by friends and family.She was preceded in death by two brothers, Jimmy “Little Jimmy” Sigmon and Taylor Lee Sigmon; and one sister, Theresa Sigmon Earles.
Surviving are her husband of 67 years, Thomas Henry Lealond Wright; children, Rita Wright Scott (Howard), Dianne Wright Brown (David McNeil), Barry Lealond Wright (Suzi), Bonnie Wright Davis (Steve) and Susan Gail Wright; grandchildren, Christopher Scott (Crystal), Ethan Brown (Megan), Mason Wright (Alison), Sage Wright Haskins (Ned), Baruch Wright, Levi Wright (Nevaeh) and Selah Wright Tuck (Jase); great-grandchildren, Bryce Scott, Beckett Scott, Bentley Brown, Marley Brown, Clara Wright, Felix Wright, Jayden Tuck and Emorie Mae Wright; brothers, Thomas Lewis Sigmon (Pat) and Terry Leon Sigmon (Trish); sisters, Thurley Lucille Hall and Tilda Louise Sigmon; brothers-in-law, Cletus Earles and David Wright (Brenda); sisters-in-law, Sylvia Young, Judy Creasy, Ruby Harris (Tim), Betty Ayers (Samuel), Darlene Blankenship (Harry) and Jean Love; many nieces and nephews.Born on March 19, 1940, Thelma was a loving and devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She so loved her children and instilled in them, the best morals and values in life. She was an amazing cook and was known in her family, for the absolute best desserts, homemade cornbread and corned beef gravy. Her love for the Blue Ridge Parkway, would bring her family together, for many years of picnics, enjoying her delicious dishes. She loved her flowers and vegetable gardening, which yielded bountiful canned goods to feed her family, including favorites of blackberry, strawberry and damson preserves, along with green beans, squash, tomatoes, pickles and so much more. Her vegetable soup was the best in the world, made from all of her homegrown vegetables. As an accomplished seamstress, she would sew beautiful dresses for her daughters and their dolls, teaching them to sew by hand and on the old Singer Sewing Machine. She had a natural remedy for any ailment her family could possibly have. Her creativity was endless, making treasured paper dolls and homemade bubbles with old wooden spools and mayonnaise lids. Thelma provided everything her children could ever want and wish for, never lacking for anything. Spending time with friends and family was important to Thelma. Thelma’s legacy lives on through her family and countless lives she touched with her kindness and gentle spirit. Her life serves as a testament to the beauty found in simplicity and devotion to loved ones.
With deep gratitude, the family would like to thank Thelma's caregivers, Barbara Proctor "Miss Proctor", Carolyn Smith, Doris Davis, Annette Board, Tammy Mullins, Lisa Miller and Debra Smithers. We can never thank you enough! And to Carolyn Mattox, your love and support helping Thelma across the finish line will always be remembered and cherished. Thank you! In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the American Red Cross.
Funeral services will be held at Flora Funeral Chapel, 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, June 4, 2025 with Dr. William Shively officiating. Interment will follow in Franklin Clearview Cemetery. Her family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. Tuesday, June 3, 2025 at Flora Funeral Service and Cremation Center, Rocky Mount.
