Thomas Delano Shorter

Thomas Delano Shorter, 87, of Chatham, passed away on October 31, 2022. Born in the Sago community of Pittsylvania County on December 3, 1934, he was the son of the late John Britton Shorter, Sr. and the late Elsie Doris Adkins Shorter.

He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Lottie Emerson Shorter, a son, David Shorter (Tuffy) of Danville; two daughters, Patsy Forester (Wes) of Watkinsville, GA, and Dana Shorter (Zach) of Crozet; and five grandchildren: Hollie Shorter, Ethan Forester, Luke Forester, Emmie Wiener, and Sutton Wiener. He is also survived by two brothers, Vincent Shorter of Chatham and Neff Shorter of Kingman, AZ.

Tom was a veteran of the United States Army and was stationed overseas during his service. He retired after 46 years of employment as Plant Superintendent at Ennis Business Forms, Inc. He was an avid gardener and enjoyed working outdoors and spending time with his grandchildren.

Graveside rites will be held at Hillcrest Burial Park on Friday, November 4, 2022, at 11:00 a.m. with Pastor Darrell Campbell officiating. Norris Funeral Services, Chatham Chapel is assisting the family.
