Thomas "Kahu' Wehse" Charles "Long Canoe" Schuyler

Thomas Charles “Kahu’ Wehse” Schuyler, Sr., age 72 of Blue Ridge and member of the Oneida Nation of Wisconsin, passed away Wednesday, June 7, 2023 at Woodhaven Nursing and Memory Care following a courageous battle with Alzheimer’s Disease Dementia. Thomas was born April 1, 1951 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania and lived in Blue Ridge since 1985. He was the son of the late Joseph A. and Juanita L. Meinzer Schuyler. Tom was very proud of his Native American heritage. His name “Kahu’ Wehse”, meaning “long canoe” was given to him by the Oneida Nation of Wisconsin. He actively participated in Native American culture events in the area and regularly listened to the Oneida Nation meetings online.Tom will be remembered for his quick wit and humor, living life to the fullest, and enjoying the moment. Tom was his “own man” and did things his way. He was a Cadillac man, loving his vehicles like his Indian motorcycle in his earlier days, and later years, his Dodge Ram Truck. Tom enjoyed his lake time on his pontoon boat. He was a person who was compassionate, caring, and willing to help those in need. Tom deeply loved family and friends but sometimes it was difficult for him to express his love, but he could always give a hug. Tom loved his cat, Harley Cat, and was a man who possessed several trades and loved his Creator. Tom left to help build the mansion in heaven.In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers: Robert “White Crow” Schuyler, Richard “Dick” Schuyler; and sister, Jean Schuyler McKay. Tom is survived by his wife of 25 years, Linda Thomas Schuyler; his children: Thomas “Tommy” Schuyler, Joseph Schuyler, Brian Schuyler, Dawn Schuyler, Kimberly Schuyler, and Marc Frishman; twelve grandchildren; brothers: Jack Schuyler and Joseph “Joe” Schuyler; sister, Juanita Schuyler Miller; numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.A celebration of Tom’s life will be 2:00 pm Monday, June 12 at Rader Funeral Home, 630 Roanoke Road Daleville. Burial will be at Old Dominion Memorial Gardens.
