Thomas L. Althoff

September 17, 1978 - July 26, 2024

Thomas Leonard Althoff, age 45, passed away Friday, July 26, 2024 with his family by his side.

Thomas was born September 17, 1978 and was a graduate of Northside High School. He attended Liberty University and Virginia Western. For many years, he was the manager of the Westlake Cinema and was most recently employed by Carilion in website design. In addition to his family, Thomas loved movies, Star Trek and Spiderman, Legos, a well-crafted play on words, and informed conversations about baseball.

Left to treasure his memory are his wife, Heather, children Max and River, brother Dan (with children Jax, Leo, and Athena), parents Bill and Donna Althoff of North Myrtle Beach, Jeannie Stevens (Heather’s mom), aunts & uncles, cousins, and many of the most loyal friends that anyone has known.

Thomas was born with very serious congenital heart defects, although those who knew him will instead always remember how much heart he gave to his family, his friends, and the way he walked through life. On his final day, Thomas said: “Life is chaos, be kind to everyone.”

The family will receive friends at Simpson Funeral Home, 5160 Peters Creek Road, Roanoke, Virginia, on Friday, August 2, 2024 from 5 to 7 p.m. Other services will be private with Pastor Judy Tavela. In lieu of flowers, Thomas would have asked that any donations be directed in his name to the American Heart Association or the Ronald McDonald House.
