Thomas Melvin Fain
Mr. Thomas Melvin Fain, age 72, of Mount Airy, passed away at his residence on Tuesday, May 27, 2025, with his loving family by his side. Mr. Fain was born in Floyd County, Virginia on July 16, 1952, to the late Thomas Green Fain and Veva Nester Fain. He worked for many years within the textile industry in the inspections department and in the elastic plant until their closing. Thomas loved to laugh and have a good time. He was an avid fan of Nascar and bluegrass music. His greatest joy was his family, including several special cousins that he often visited. Mr. Fain is survived by his loving and devoted wife of 25 years, Barbara Thomas; children, Thomas Fain, Catherine Hill and Justin; grandchildren, Belle “Jae” Fain, Zeke Cross, TJ Fain; daughter-in-law, Natasha Thomas; sisters-in-law, Frances Jackson, Kay Thomas and Steve; brother-in-law, Lonnie Beck; special cousins, Joy Turman, Maynard Sue Nester; a host of nieces and nephews; his first mother-in-law, Louise Smith; fur babies, Tinkerbell and Harley. In addition to his parents, Mr. Fain was preceded in death by his first wife, Debbie Fain; brother, Mitchell Fain; stepson, Jesse Thomas. A celebration of Mr. Fain’s life will be held Saturday, May 31, 2025, at Collinstown Presbyterian Church with the Rev. Jeff Wall and Rev. Mark George officiating. The family will receive friends at the church on Saturday, May 31, 2025, from 12:00 PM until the time of the service. In lieu of flowers, the family wishes donations be made to Surry Animal Resue PO Box 981, Mount Airy, NC 27030 or to Tiny Tigers Rescue PO Box 207, Toast, NC 27049. The family wishes to extend their deepest gratitude to Dr. Richard Herbers’ office and staff of Mountain Valley Hospice for the care given to Thomas.
