Thomas Ray Hawks
Mr. Thomas Ray Hawks, age 89, of Cana, Virginia, went home to be with his Lord and Savior early Wednesday morning, January 28, 2026, at Northern Regional Hospital. Mr. Hawks was born on July 5, 1936, in Carroll County, to the late Fielden Hawks and Bessie King Hawks. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and great grandfather, who will be deeply missed by all who knew him. He was a man of great faith, with him and his wife being the oldest founding members of Flat Ridge Baptist Church. Mr. Hawks worked many years as a heavy equipment operator, and enjoyed looking after his apple and peach orchards, even tending to his cattle. Left to cherish his memories are his loving wife of 70 years, Carol Holder Hawks; daughter and son-in-law, Pamela Bowman and Johnny; daughter-in-law, Yvonne Overcast; son and daughter-in-law, Bradley Hawks and Chastiny; grandchildren and their spouses, Matthew Bowman and Kelly, Andrew Bowman and Stephanie, Charlotte Hawks, Makena Overcast-Hawks, Gabrielle Overcast-Hawks; great-grandchildren, Owen Bowman, Grayson Bowman, Henry Bowman, Tucker Bowman; step grandchildren, Chance Sizemore and Hallie, Brooks Sizemore, Bailey Sizemore; step great-grandchildren, Ayden Sands, Ellie Orr, Logan Orr. In addition to his parents, Mr. Hawks was preceded in death by his daughter, Dr. Sharon Hawks; sisters, Frankie McMillian, Beulah McMillian; brother, Rush Hawks. A celebration of Mr. Hawk’s life will be held Saturday, February 7, 2026, at 2:00 PM at Flat Ridge Baptist Church, with Pastor Chris Davis officiating. A burial will follow in the Hawks cemetery. The family will receive friends on Saturday, February 7, 2026, at Flat Ridge Baptist from 12:30 PM until time of the service. Flowers will be accepted, or memorial donations may be made to a charity of the donor’s choice. Moodys of Mount airy is respectfully serving the Hawks family.
