Thomas "Tommy" Monroe Hunley

On Monday, May 15, 2023, Thomas “Tommy” Monroe Hunley left his earthly home and ran into the waiting arms of his Lord and savior, Jesus Christ. Tommy was 84. He was a proud veteran of the United States Army. In 1982 he opened Virginia Shoe and Lock Service, where he served his community for 38 years. He was a long time member of Franklin Heights Church. Tommy was a loving and devoted christian, husband, father and grandfather. He will be greatly missed here on earth, but we take great comfort in knowing that he is with our heavenly father. Tommy is preceded in death by his parents, Onie and Lester Hunley; brothers Cleo, Otis, Milton and Donnie Hunley; Surviving are his sweetheart and wife of 60 years, Betty Powell Hunley; loving son Kevin Hunley(Brandi); loving daughter Debra Hunley; special grandchildren, Tyler Hunley (Maddie), Cody Hunley; brother Richard Hunley; brother-in-law, Glen Powell (Bettie); sisters-in-law, Ella Grey Hunley and Betty Cundiff Hunley and numerous nieces and nephews. Special thanks to Carilion Clinic Hospice, Rita Vasquez, Sue Miller and Brandi Hunley for the around the clock care. Funeral services will be conducted at Franklin Heights Baptist Church 11 a.m. Thursday, May 18, 2023 with Rev. Bobby Young and Chaplain Rick Poland officiating. Interment will follow in Franklin Memorial Park. His family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the church.Arrangements by Flora Funeral Service and Cremation Center, Rocky Mount.
