Thomas "Tuck" Hairston

August 5, 1944 - November 8, 2022

On August 5, 1944, God blessed the late Peggy Shelton Hairston and Albert Jefferson Hairston with their second son, Thomas “Tuck” Hairston, Sr. in Bassett, Virginia. On November 8, 2022, God was pleased to call him home and give him rest from his labor. During the 78 short years of his life, Tuck developed many relationships with many people. He was so much to so many people. He took pride in offering advice and guidance to his children, his nieces, nephews, friends, and anyone seeking direction. He was always available to offer a helping hand to those in need. Tuck had a quick wit and a great sense of humor. He loved to laugh and joke and spend time with family and friends. He was a proud father, grandfather and great grandfather. He loved to share stories about the lives and accomplishments of his children and grandchildren. Tuck was an avid golfer and a devoted family man. He loved golfing with his friends and family. He had tremendous joy in introducing golf to his children and grandchildren. He was elated to play golf or a game of chess with his grandsons. And he was overjoyed to hear about the golf games that his grandsons played and how they were improving and growing to love the game. He was delighted when he was no longer able to win the chess games he played with his grandson no matter how hard he tried. He loved gathering with family to enjoy a good movie and a bucket of popcorn. He loved cooking the turkey for Thanksgiving and frying chicken for any family gathering. He loved his family with every inch of his being and he was fiercely proud of each and every one of them. Tuck was preceded in death by his parents and older siblings – a brother and 2 sisters. He leaves behind a wife, Gretchen Hairston, 2 sisters, 4 daughters, 1 son and a host of grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins, in-laws, friends and a beloved dog Heath. He will be missed and lovingly remembered. The funeral will be Tuesday, November 15, 2022, at 11:00 A.M., at Wright Funeral Service Chapel. Burial will follow at King Family Cemetery.
