Thurby Vernell Chapman

Thurby Vernell Chapman, Jr., 70, of Martinsville, Virginia, passed away Tuesday, July 2, 2024. He was born December 1, 1953, in Bassett, Virginia, to the late Thurby V. Chapman, Sr. and Rosa Mae Hagwood Chapman.In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Robert Wells, Jr.Thurby proudly served in the United States Army and was a member of Faith Tabernacle Holiness Church under Bishop Loretta Dillard. He loved to fish, and enjoyed cooking, and singing. He was known as a prankster, who always wore a smile. He had a huge heart that loved his family dearly.He is survived by daughter, Tanya Sturdivant (Johnny); sons, Malcolm Chapman (Donna), Maurice Pritchett (Veronica), Thurby V. Chapman, III (Sharica), and Kevin Ellis; sisters, Bishop Loretta Dillard (Eddie), Elder Jane Brown, and Minister Patricia Brown (Kevin); brothers, Michael Chapman (Junie), Jerry Chapman (Chrystal), and Clifton Chapman (Jack); seventeen grandchildren; and nine great grandchildren.The funeral service will be held Monday, July 8, 2024, at 1:30 PM at Wright Funeral Service Chapel with Bishop Loretta Dillard officiating. Visitation will be held thirty minutes prior to the service. A floating visitation will be held Sunday, July 7, 2024, from 1:30 PM to 5:00 PM at Wright Funeral Service Chapel.Wright Funeral Service & Crematory is serving the family.
