Thurman "Tee" Ruth Preston

Thurman Ruth Preston, 75, of Martinsville, Virginia passed away Thursday, November 3, 2022, at Blue Ridge Therapy Connection in Stuart. He was born October 21, 1947 in Henry County to Claudia Mae Hairston and the late Ernest Preston. In addition to his father, he was preceded in death by his wife, Shirley Lewis Preston; sisters, Bernice Preston, Claudia Tina Moyer and Wanda Penn; brothers, Michael G. Preston and Leander Preston. Tee proudly served his country in the United States Navy. During his service time in Vietnam, he was awarded The Air Medal for meritorious achievement while participating in aerial flight, flying helicopter rescue. He was a graduate of Bassett High School, Class of 1966. He was employed by NASA Naval Weapons Station in the Department of Defense where he dedicated 32 years of service. When Tee wasn't building bombs, he spent many hours on the golf course where he was known as "The Man". In his free time, he enjoyed telling jokes, and playing music. In addition to his mother, Thurman is survived by one daughter, Tara Preston; sisters, Marlene Redd, Simona Simmons and Sidney Lewis (Jay); and brothers, McDaniel Preston (Mary), Wilbert Preston (Florence), Ozzie Preston, Kevin Preston, Avery Preston (Pam) and Steve Preston (Mary Ann). The Funeral will be Wednesday, November 9, 2022 at 1:00 PM at Wright Funeral Service Chapel. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service. Burial will be private.
