Tony Ervin Martin

December 16, 1929 - January 16, 2025

Tony “Ervin” Martin, 95, passed away on January 16, 2025, and is reunited in Heaven with his cherished wife, Hazel Elizabeth Gray Martin. Ervin was born on December 16, 1929, in Patrick County, Virginia, to the late Benjamin Harrison Martin and Mattie Susan Craig Martin. In addition to his parents and wife, he is preceded in death by his infant daughter, Donna Leigh Martin; sisters, Verna Smith and Velma Holt; brother, Marvin N. Martin; and brother-in-law, Glenwood Adkins.

Ervin proudly served in the United States Navy, where he dedicated his efforts to logistics during the Korean War. After his service, he worked as a furniture delivery driver for Trent Furniture and later at Autos by Nelson, where his coworkers coined him, “Swervin’ Ervin.” He retired at the age of 90, leaving behind a legacy of hard work and humor.

Ervin’s faith was a central part of his life. He served as a Sunday School teacher for many years and was a devoted member of both Tabernacle Baptist Church and Thomas Heights Baptist Church. As a true handyman, there was no problem he couldn’t fix and would always lend a helping hand with a loving heart. But it was his sense of humor that made him unforgettable. He was hilarious, and with help from his granddaughter, Anna Beth, he was truly one-of-a-kind. Ervin was, above all, a family man. His greatest joy came from spending time with those he loved, and he will be deeply missed by all who knew him.

Ervin is survived by his daughter, Dianne Martin Burton (Jerry); granddaughter, Anna Beth Burton (Brian); sister, Ethel Adkins; sisters-in-law, Carolyn Robertson and Barbara Martin; and numerous nieces and nephews.

The family would like to express their heartfelt gratitude to Carolyn Robertson for her unwavering love, support, and kindness. Her thoughtfulness and compassion meant the world to the family and Ervin.

A Visitation will be held on Saturday, January 18, 2025, from 2:00 PM – 3:00 PM, at Norris Funeral Services – Martinsville. A Funeral Service will immediately follow, with Pastors Wayne Fulcher and Christopher Robertson officiating.
