Travis Russell Thomason
Travis Russell Thomason Jr.,82, of Rocky Mount, VA, went to be with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Saturday, August 19, 2023. Russell was born on March 12, 1941 to the late Travis Russell Thomason Sr. and the late Carrie Rakes Thomason. He was preceded in death by his brother, James “Jimmy” Thomason and his sister Lois Cooke.
Surviving to cherish his memory are his wife of 61 years Judy Hall Thomason, sister Ann Holley, brother-in-law Harry Hall and wife Sue, his two daughters; Susan McClung and husband Brian, and Kimberly Duncan and husband Jeff, grandchildren Travis Underwood, Cassidy Duncan, Emily Duncan and Greyson McClung, and several nieces and nephews.
Russell worked at Stanley Furniture Company and retired after 43 years of service where he held many positions including finishing department supervisor. Outside of work, Russell enjoyed being outdoors hunting, fishing, and working in his garden. Using his skills from the furniture industry, Russell was an accomplished woodworker, making many intricately carved and finished canes and walking sticks. But most of all Russell enjoyed spending time with his family and cherished the time he got to spend with his grandchildren.
The family would like to extend their sincere gratitude to all of his medical providers for the professional and compassionate care he received including Dr. James Maxey, the 6th Floor PCU Department, and the 10th Floor Palliative Care Department at Roanoke Memorial Hospital. A memorial service will be held at 2:00pm on Saturday, August 26, 2023 at Flora Funeral Service and Cremation Center in Rocky Mount, Virginia. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service.
