Turner Elwood Hopkins
Turner Elwood Hopkins, 85, of Thaxton, VA, passed on to his heavenly home on Saturday, May 17, 2025. He was born in Bedford, VA, on October 6, 1939, to Guy Edward Hopkins and Cleon (Nance) Hopkins. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Jimmy Hopkins, and sister, Peggy Devanney.
Turner proudly served in the United States Army from 1959 to 1962 and continued his service in the National Guard. A dedicated and hardworking man, he was a small business owner before becoming a full-time farmer.
He had a lifelong passion for restoring classic cars and enjoyed working with his hands. Turner also trained and rode Tennessee Walking Horses for many years. He had a remarkable talent for crafting items he needed—often building things himself after observing them elsewhere.
Turner was a faithful member of Grace Memorial Baptist Church. He came to know the Lord in his late 20s and walked with Him faithfully for the rest of his life. His transformation and steadfast faith were a true reflection of 2 Corinthians 5:17:“If anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation. The old has passed away; behold, the new has come.”
He is survived by his loving wife of 62 years,Brenda Cheatham Hopkins; his sister,Nancy Hopkins Newberry; and his children:Beth Clair Hopkins Robertson(Scott),Amie Joy Hopkins Angle(Allen),Leah Marie Hopkins Spear(Jason), andJoshua Edward Hopkins(Nikki). He was a beloved grandfather toBethany Robertson Curling,Zachary Taylor Robertson,Ivy Noel Angle,Charlotte Ava Spear,Turner Allen Angle,Thaxton Andrew Spear,Tallula Joy Angle,Joshua Turner Hopkins, andWalker Lane Hopkins; and a great-grandfather toLincoln andGrayson Curling, andLynleigh and Magnolia Robertson. He is also remembered fondly by several nieces and nephews.
Turner was laid to rest in Greenwood Cemetery following a private family service on May 19, 2025. He is now in his eternal home with his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.
